Compare roof-ventilation proposals by evidence and scope

Use the same assumptions and entered amounts across proposals.

Explanatory planning diagram: compare roof ventilation proposals

Give each bidder the same question

Provide the known roof arrangement, dated observations, available product records and unresolved conditions. State whether the proposal concerns reroofing, insulation coordination, a specific observation or a product inventory. Different starting questions can produce different scopes that should not be compared only by total.

Ask each proposal to identify the findings or assumptions supporting the work. A statement that the home 'needs more ventilation' should be explained through the actual assessment and applicable requirements. This portal does not rank that finding or substitute its entered-area target for a technical review.

Reconcile products, access and exclusions

Record actual models, counts, net-free-area sources and installation responsibilities. Ask how access, suspect materials, adjacent repairs and interfaces with roof coverings are treated. Mark unknown items as questions rather than filling them with an online standard rate.

Keep the responsible assessment, installation and inspection parties distinct. A product price or vent count does not establish the complete scope. Ask how newly discovered conditions will be documented and authorized, and preserve the responses with the proposal.

Use transparent entered arithmetic

The quote tool multiplies entered quantities and low/high unit amounts, then shows entered fixed charges and the user's tax assumption. The result has no default market prices or guaranteed project cost. Currency and quote date remain part of the saved record.

Compare the scopes before interpreting the totals. A lower entered result may omit assessment or related work. Ask for a written reconciliation and keep outstanding questions visible. The completed comparison supports a discussion with the relevant parties, while avoiding invented contractor qualifications, service coverage or performance promises.

A worked planning example

For invented worksheet values, three units entered at CAD 80–100 produce CAD 240–300. Added fixed charges of CAD 60–90 produce CAD 300–390 before any entered tax assumption. These numbers demonstrate multiplication and addition only; they are not Canadian installed prices.

Another proposal may include an assessment that the first excludes. Ask for the scopes to be reconciled before choosing by the arithmetic range. Keep product specifications and access responsibilities visible. The tool can show an exact entered difference, but only the relevant review and written proposal can explain what work that difference represents.

Keep in your brief

  • Ask what evidence supports the scope.
  • Compare included work before totals.
  • Use actual entered quote amounts.
